Bastille - Bad blood

Bastille - Bad blood (2013) Virgin Music
Produced by Mark Crew / Dan Smith
Tracks : 1.Pompeii 2.Things we lost in the fire 3.Bad blood 4.Overjoyed 5.These streets 6.Weight of living Part II 7.Icarus 8.Oblivion 9.Flaws 10.Daniel in the Eden 11.Laura Palmer 12.Get home 13.Weight of living Part I
3 out of 5

#1 on the U.K albums chart, 6 hitsingles and my daughter talks about them all the time. Well, I thought I should check out what the fuss was all about. Bastille is a new band with 4 Londoners where the music is all written by singer/keyboardist Dan Smith. Their debut album "Bad blood" has truly conquered the world and it was recently released as a double album, "All this bad blood", including one disc of bonus tracks and b-sides.
The music is very mainstream and hardly groundbreaking, but the songs most often contain strong melodies and the production sound like a million bucks. You can definitely hear traces of Coldplay in there but also A-ha and The Killers. Whether you like it or not, Bastille is here to stay and I dont mind ´em. "Pompeii" is a really great song which is perfect for dancing in the moonlight to.

Burns Like Fire - To the ground

Burns Like Fire - To the ground (2014) Autumn and Colour Records
Produced by Burns Like Fire
Tracks : 1.Jean shorts 2.Dissapointment 3.Totally worth it 4.Abandon ship 5.110 degree Beaver fever
2 out of 5

You shouldn´t judge the album by it´s artwork but in the case with Georgia based Burns Like Fire´s new "To the ground" EP, it truly suits the music just perfect because this is non compromising punk rock in the same vein as The Damned, Sham 69 and Buzzcocks. The playing is a bit sloppy and the songs lack of memorable hooks but this ain´t fabricated radio friendly punk rock the 21st century style, so thumbs up for their honesty.
Burns Like Fire are a bit like The Hives of punk, not my cup of tea but they´re ok I guess.

The Venetia Fair - Basically just does Karakoe

The Venetia Fair - Basically just does Karakoe (2013) Independent
Produced by Michael Abiuso / The Venetia Fair / Steve Sopchak
Tracks : 1.Bohemian rhapsody 2.Come on Eileen 3.Rock lobster 4.Jesus of suburbia 5.Camouflage, camouflage 6.The willing well III : Apollo II : The truth
3,5 out of 5

The Venetia Fair are an underrated band that deserves more attention in the world, they´re so cool and artsy and also enough crazy to take on some classic rock songs on their brand new album "Basically just does Karakoe".
It was released on Christmas eve and I´m thrilled to hear their versions in this jukebox of hits, they really have made these songs their own and I didn´t even like Dexys Midnight Runners "Come on Eileen" but The Venetia Fair gives new life to this 80´s hit and I love it.
B 52´s first single "Rock lobster" suits this amazing band just fine and should end up on every setlist from now on when TVF perform live. I must say that the opener "Bohemian rhapsody" is the most different version I´ve heard of this Queen classic and could also be the best cover of this magic piece of work.
Green Day´s "Jesus of Suburbia" is a bit boring and they do their very best to live it up but it´s the weakest effort on this 6 track album, however I do enjoy the last two tracks a whole lot more.
The post hardcore band The Blood Brothers and the alternative progrock band Coheed and Cambria must feel honored to have their songs "Camouflage, camouflage" and "The truth" in this great collection of fresh covers.
I can tell there´s a lot of love in the making of "Basically just does Karakoe".

Midnite Hellion - Hour of the wolf

Midnite Hellion - Hour of the wolf (2013) Witches Brew Records
Produced by Midnite Hellion
Tracks : 1.Hour of the wolf 2.The Morrigan
3 out of 5

New Jersey based Midnite Hellion takes you back to the late 70´s/early 80´s and classic heavy metal with bands like Judas Priest, Accept and Virgin Steele. They debuted with "The Fever" EP in 2011 and followed up with "Enter the unknown in 2012, a new full length is in the works and will be out in 2014 but first the band fire it up with the 2 track single "Hour of the wolf".
These new songs are reminiscent of Judas Priest anno 1979 and they really nailed it, you could fool anyone with this being an old heavy metal recording. I think both songs are good and I will await their next record with anticipation, bring out the wolf!

Global Unified - Global Unified

Global Unified - Global Unified (2013) Independent
Produced by Frank Hopkinton
Tracks : 1.If I were a drone 2.When I was a young boy 3.I won´t feel a thing 4.The joke is on me 5.Desert soliloqoy 6.Enemies list 7.Disposition Matrix 8.Hypercyclic 9.Globalist death camp 10.Go anywhere 11.Secret listening machine 12.Unlucky strike 13.In my sleep 14.Stellar wind 15.Keep the fires lit 16.Drones at the gates of dawn 17.Achilles 18.Shockwave 19.I could have been
3,5 out of 5

A mysterious package with a CD and an interesting story dropped in my mailbox the week before Christmas, I listened to it and thought it was unique enough to end up as the last album of the week on my blog. Global Unified is a concept album with a sci-fi/war story that sounds like it could result in a great film. I don´t have much info regarding credits except one name, Frank Hopkinton. So I guess he´s the man behind this 19 track album.
He has listed artists like Urge Overkill, David Bowie, Police, Neil Young and Dinosaur Jr as influences for the music on Global Unified and even I can´t really compare these songs to the artists above, I do think the sound on this album has traces of the genres they represent like new wave, space rock, 90´s alternative rock and 70´s classic rock.
Imagine Matthew Good writing songs with Larry Gowan and Wishbone Ash as the backing band and you´ll get Global Unified.
I like this a lot!

Missing Persons missing in action

After a long absence from the music scene, Missing Persons featuring original vocalist Dale Bozzio will return to the Southern California stage for two special concerts at Saint Rocke in Hermosa Beach on January 10 and at The Coach House in San Juan Capistrano on January 19. Such memorable hits as “Words,” “Destination Unknown,” and “Walking In L.A.” made Missing Persons a household name in the ‘80s and a staple of early MTV thanks in part to the cutting edge fashion statements of Bozzio. With her unforgettable pink streaked hair, fishbowl bra and bubblewrap jacket, Bozzio would become an iconic figure of rock fashion, the original glam diva, inspiring the likes of Madonna, Gwen Stefani, Lady GaGa, and others! Her vocal style too became a unique signifier of the band’s music, and her voice remains as strong today as it was then!

These two exclusive performances are an exciting prelude to the release of the first studio album of new material to bear the Missing Persons name in over 25 years! The album, titled appropriately enoughMissing In Action, was produced by Billy Sherwood and will be released on Cleopatra Records, March 4. Sherwood, whose recent work on the solo album of Star Trek actor William Shatner thrust Sherwood into the national spotlight, composed the album alongside Bozzio and brought a modern twist to the classic Missing Persons’s sound for what is sure to be one of the most talked about comeback records of the year. A record release party is planned and a nationwide tour will launch later in March!

Sick Puppies - Connect

Sick Puppies - Connect (2013) Capitol Records
Produced by Tim James / Antonina Armato
Tracks : 1.Die to save you 2.There´s no going back 3.Walking away 4.Gunfight 5.Poison 6.Where did the time go 7.Telling lies 8.Connect 9.Run 10.The trick the devil did 11.Healing now 12.Under a very black sky
4 out of 5

"Connect" is the highest charting album from the Aussie trio Sick Puppies, yet again they show their strength in making albums that ain´t a carbon copy of the previous album and still keep releasing impressive work from time to time.
This is modern rock the aussie rock way, both intelligent and highly professional. Their 3rd major label album is the first new music we get from Sick Puppies since the NCIS soundtrack song "That time of year" from 2010, and what a fab album it is with killer songs like "Gunfight", "Telling lies" and the hitsingle "There´s no going back".
But the true highlight is the progressive and dark "Under a very black sky", just marvelous.
Other albums worth checking out if you like Sick Puppies:
Like A Storm - The end of the beginning, Borderline Fire - This Trojan State, Coldrain - Final destination.

Neck Deep unleash new single Growing pains

U.K pop punk band NECK DEEP have revealed a brand new single, ‘Growing Pains’, taken from their highly anticipated debut full length, ‘Wishful Thinking’, which will see worldwide release via HOPELESS RECORDS on January 13, 2014.

War Games release first single off upcoming EP

Progressive Indie Rock quintet,  WAR GAMES  (formerly known as  Another Option) is following up their 2012 effort ‘Mountains’ with the uniquely fan suggested ‘The Acoustic Sessions’ EP.  In anticipation, they unveil their first single, ‘The Only Debt we Bear is Love’.  Staying true to influences;  Thrice,  Brand New, and  Circa Survive  the southern Massachusetts  five piece demonstrate their continuous ability to lift up and inspire listeners with themes of finding yourself and not giving up on what means most to you.
Guitarist Ian Provost comments, “I'm really excited about the release of the acoustic album. It's not your A-typical acoustic album where the band sits down with a couple of guitars and plays the songs in a more mellow way, but rather a striped down and rebuilt collection of the songs our fans have become familiar with. I think they'll be pleasantly surprised with how everything has come together. It's also exciting because we gave the fans a chance to make their voices heard and hand pick the songs that will appear on the record, rather than attempt to speak for them and choose by ourselves. The whole process was very interactive and once we saw the track listing coming together it was hard not to want to get to work on the album.”
Once hooked on this track you will have no choice other than to keep your eyes on the band’s social media pages for more news updates leading to the release of the full E.P.!

Skillet - Rise

Skillet - Rise (2013) Atlantic Records
Produced by Howard Benson
Tracks : 1.Rise 2.Sick of it 3.Good to be alive 4.Not gonna die 5.Circus for a psycho 6.American noise 7.Madness in me 8.Salvation 9.Fire and fury 10.My religion 11.Hard to find 12.What I believe
3,5 out of 5

My first meeting with Skillet was their 2nd album "Hey you, I love your soul" from 1998 but they were a completely different band soundwise back then.
Today, they are one of the biggest bands in the christian rock genre and are still winning fans over to their camp - most recently on tour with Nickelback.
Their 9th studio album "Rise" reached #4 on the Billboard Top 200 with hitsingles like "Sick of it", "Not gonna die", "American noise" and "Fire and fury". But I reckon they could release a few more songs to climb the active rock chart such as "What I believe" and the strong opener"Rise".
AllMusic call their music orchestral prog rock and I agree, I totally love this huge sound! It´s also cool that they flirt with Angus Young on "Circus for psycho", their new lead guitarist Seth Morrison is great by the way. He replaced the long time member Ben Kasica who was with the band over 10 years.
The new album cannot match "Comatose" from 2006 but it´s equal to "Awake" (2009).
Other albums worth checking out if you like Skillet:
Awaken - Broken circle, Stria - Stria, The Truth Is - A new beginning.

Above The Underground get honest on storming debut

It’s already been a decade, but it feels like at least a lifetime ago that the likes of Taking Back Sunday, Thrice and The Used were unveiling their game changing, era-defining debuts; those golden days of Drive Thru Records, MSN Messenger, the Taste Of Chaos tour, MySpace... One listen to Above The Underground’s boisterous debut full length ‘Sonder’ and you’ll find yourself right back there on a crashing wave of sense memory, immersed in the transportive power that only music can unleash so brilliantly.
"Sonder" is released on February 17th, listen to the new track "Return to point pleasant".

Her previous album "Skipping stone" came out in 2012.

Karnivool - Asymmetry

Karnivool - Asymmetry (2013) Density Records
Produced by Nick DiDia
Tracks : 1.Aum 2.Nachash 3.A.M war 4.We are 5.The refusal 6.Aeons 7.Asymmetry 8.Eidolon 9.Sky machine 10.Amusia 11.The last few 12.Float 13.Alpha Omega 14.Om
4 out of 5

It´s going really well for the sons of Perth now, Karnivool had their first #1 album on the ARIA chart and they also won their first ARIA award for best hard rock/heavy metal album for "Asymmetry". And since it´s taking so long for Tool to release new music, what could be a better substitute than these Aussie metallers.
This is a safe buy if you´re into suggestive and progressive metal, you can always count on Karnivool being quality for the ears. However, I still think "Sound awake" is a stronger album but that doesn´t mean the new album by any means is weak. It´s not!
I prefer Forrester Savell´s production on the previous albums before Nick DiDia´s more raw sound, I agree that DiDia gave the band a more live-feel to the songs which works.
The best with Karnivool is that you get to discover new things everytime you listen to their music.

Red - Release the panic

Red - Release the panic (2013) Essential / Sony Music
Produced by Howard Benson
Tracks : 1.Release the panic 2.Perfect life 3.Die for you 4.Damage 5.Same disease 6.Hold me now 7.If we only 8.So far away 9.Glass house 10.The moment we come alive 11.Love will leave a mark 12.As you go
3 out of 5

I was a bit disappointed with Red´s previous album "Until we have faces" from 2011, although it was a good album - I thought they did the same album over and over again.
But things change, the orchestral parts has been replaced by a more industrial flavored sound on their 4th album "Release the panic" that came out earlier this year.
Their bombastic and orchestral rock has influenced bands like Skillet, Wavorly and Les Friction so it´s kind of interesting that Red are stepping away from their trademark now.
The new album feels heavier too, you can of course sense the good old Red style in songs like "If we only" and "Glass house".
This is also the first time they work with another producer than Rob Graves who did the first 3 albums, the very successful Howard Benson has taken over the steering wheel on "Release the panic" and he has done a well respected job for sure. I do welcome the evolution of sound but these new songs just don´t give the goosebumps that the first two albums did.
Still I believe the band is more than pleased with the sales since the album reached #7 on the Billboard Top 200, and one more thing.......don´t you think Red sound a bit like Three Days Grace now?

Blue October - Sway

Blue October - Sway (2013) Up / Down Records
Produced by Justin Furstenfeld / Tim Palmer / David Castell
Tracks : 1.Breathe, it´s over 2.Sway 3.Angels in everything 4.Bleed out 5.Debris 6.Fear 7.Things we don´t know about 8.Hard candy 9.Put it in 10.Light you up 11.Things we do at night 12.Not broken anymore 13.To be
4 out of 5

Better late than never or save the best for last, well you can use both sayings in the case with me and Blue October´s latest album "Sway" that came out this summer but I didn´t listen to it until now. Shame on me!
No excuses here, they are as great as ever and since their previous album "Any man in America" showed a heartbroken man in Furstenfeld´s lyrics, the new album is filled with hope where we can sense a fresh new start in love and life.
Furstenfeld grew up listening to sad songsmiths such as The Cure and The Smiths but also Peter Gabriel which makes all things clear when you listen to Blue October, however they turn it into their own progressive modern rock in a slow mode.
Sit down, relax and enjoy the ride.
It´s good to see David Castell back in the producer chair, he worked with the band on their 2003 album "History for sale" and 2006 album "Foiled".
Castell co-produced the new album together with Furstenfeld and Tim Palmer who also did "Any man in America", the sound is warm and suits perfectly to beautiful songs like "Things we don´t know about" and "Not broken anymore".
The singles "Bleed out" and "Angels in everything" are classic Blue October songs but my personal favorite is "Things we do at night", oh la la....a tear almost fell from my eye there.

Bad Suns look forward to a busy 2014 with new music coming

Southern California rock band Bad Suns formed in 2012 and in the short time since inception, have managed to be musically beyond their years. Made up of Christo Bowman (vocals), Gavin Bennett (bass), Miles Morris (drums) and Ray Libby (guitar) the four piece ranges from ages 19-22 yet has a sound reminiscent of rock stalwarts from generations past.
Influences are apparent on the band’s upcoming EP Transpose, where angst-ridden riffs and ethereal yet charismatic vocals pay tribute to post-punk legends of the early 80’s.
Transpose was recorded in the studio with producer Eric Palmquist (The Mars Volta, Wavves, Trash Talk) and serves as a prelude to the band’s debut full-length slated for 2014.
Transpose will be released on Jan 21st, listen to the new track "Salt" here:

Evergreen Terrace - Dead horses

Evergreen Terrace - Dead horses (2013) Rise Records
Produced by Stan Martell
Tracks : 1.Crows 2.When you´re born in the gutter, you end up in the port 3.Post satanic ritual baby 4.Dead horses 5.Browbeaters anonymous 6.It´s all over but the cryin´ 7.Lacuna inc 8.Mike Myers never runs but he always catches up 9.The fortunate ones 10.That dog I´ll hunt
3 out of 5

The Florida based Evergreen Terrace has been around since 1999 and created a loyal fanbase through a lot of hard work touring and has released 6 albums up to date. You can catch them on tour this winter with Suicial Tendencies and I bet they´re a great live act because there´s a lot of energy in these new songs on "Dead horses".
I think it´s smart to blend melodic hardcore with metal and punk, you get everything from furious riffs to singalong choruses in the best Bad Religion style. I imagine bands like I Am War and Captain We´re Sinking must be influenced by Evergreen Terrace, these dead horses are very much alive and kicking. Take a moment and listen to the catchy "Post satanic ritual baby" or the monumental "The fortunate ones", or why not the awesome title track.
Solid album!

Honour Crest - Spilled ink

Honour Crest - Spilled Ink (2013) Rise Records
Produced by Cameron Mizell
Tracks : 1.Spilled ink 2.Djentle 3.Origin 4.Glaciers 5.Bridges 6.In irons 7.Mountains 8.Allergen 9.Eclipse 10.The further 11.Undertow
3,5 out of 5

When you see the name Cameron Mizell (Palisades, Myka Relocate) as the producer, you´re home safe with a top notch sound and Virginia based Honour Crest´s 2nd album "Spilled ink" ain´t no exception. The production is huge, crispy and very heavy. But then again, Cameron had his hands on some really great songs from Honour Crest too.
If you want to indulge yourself with a cool blend of metalcore and electronica, "Spilled ink" is the album you´re looking for. What a pompous entrance the band would make on stage to the tones of "In irons" and then head over to the massive "Mountains". I love the balance between growls and clean vocals which comes out for the best in tracks like "Glaciers" and "Spilled ink".
I love it!

Altitudes and Attitude - Altitudes and Attitude

Altitudes & Attitude - Altitudes & Attitude (2014) Megaforce Records
Produced by David Ellefson / Frank Bello / Jay Ruston
Tracks : 1.Booze and cigarettes 2.Here again 3.Tell the world
3,5 out of 5

This is more or less a supergroup with a rather impressive debut EP coming in January 2014, Altitudes and Attitude feature David Ellefson (Megadeth) - Guitars/Bass, Frank Bello (Anthrax) - Lead Vocals/Guitars and Jeff Friedl (A Perfect Circle) - Drums. Plus a guest appearance from Gus G - Lead guitar on the track "Here again".
The fans probably expect a thrashmetal affair but that´s where you´re wrong, these songs have more in common with bands like Janes Addiction, Filter and pre)Thing. The music on this EP can be described as a mix between 90´s alternative metal and modern rock, I love the bass solo in "Here again" but I really get all excited when I hear splendid songs like "Booze and cigarettes" and "Tell the world". Especially "Tell the world" is a killer.
What a surprise!

Remains in a view - Elegies

Remains in a view - Elegies (2013) Memorial Records
Produced by Remains in a view
Tracks : 1.The void 2.Shipwreck of existence 3.So far from the truth 4.Crossing the line 5.As moments becomes memories 6.Sleepwalker blues 7.Left undone 8.Travelers 9.The deepest black
2,5 out of 5

The Italians Remains in a view are influenced by bands in the modern metal genre such as Texas in July, Miss May I and As I Lay Dying. Their debut album "Elegies" is an explosive affair of classic heavy metal riffs and screamo flavored growl vocals, at first I thought it was a monotone album but after a few spins I could seperate the nuances of melodic metal from this doom-like soundscape. In fact, I find the hard hitting "Crossing the line" very, very good and also appreciate the instrumental "Sleepwalker blues" a lot.
But there´s a problem with their frontman that insists on hitting the same note on the major part of these songs, and that´s not a good thing when it´s about screamo all the way through.
Wanted - more variety!

ROAM - Head down

ROAM - Head down (2013) Pinky Swear Records
Produced by ROAM
Tracks : 1.You never said 2.Sticker slap 3.Nothing in return 4.Foresight 5.Headrush
2,5 out of 5

Down in the southeast parts of England, we find the pop punk quintet ROAM that was formed in 2012 and released their debut "Common ground" the same year. Now, their follow up "Head down" is out and what the listener gets are fast and short songs that will appeal to fans of Millencolin and NOFX. I´m not overexcited over this EP and think they´re pretty average but "Nothing in return" is a really good song though.

Punkrockers Ellesmere takes you to bail city

Vancouver, Canada skate punk actELLESMERE, has released their debut EP "Bail City" as a pay-what-you-want digital download through DYING SCENE RECORDS.  You can stream and download it here

If you’re unfamiliar with Ellesmere they play punk rock with the same bombastic leads and infectious melodies that made NOFX scene legends. Sharply written, fast paced fretwork abound, Ellesmere takes the best of the skate punk golden age and run with it towards the chugging, woah-oh’d horizon. The harmonies are tight, the songs are catchy, and the music is fierce enough to please even the most jaded of punkers.

The Venetia Fair to release cover EP

Boston-based rock band The Venetia Fair has officially announced the release of their highly anticipated cover EP, “The Venetia Fair…Basically Just Does Karaoke”, which will hit digital retail platforms on December 24th, 2013.
Plans for this EP stem back to the band’s extremely successful Kickstarter campaign in 2012 which funded their acclaimed full-length record, “Every Sick Disgusting Though We’ve Got In Our Brain”. During this campaign, 6 donors purchased a prize which entitled them to choose a song for the band to cover - as a result the track listing for this EP was born.
Singer Benny Santoro comments, “We said we'd cover anything they wanted and we got 6 very different songs from different genres and different eras in music, each with their own challenges. We had no intention of simply playing these songs as they were originally played (especially Bohemian Rhapsody... we didn't wanna go anywhere near that song!) so we took our time and completely rebuilt them from the ground up to make sure we made them our own. Some of the songs we loved and had to figure out how to tweak them without totally ruining them and some of the songs we hated and had to figure out how to make them good, but I believe we rose to the challenge and, with the help of our Kickstarter backers, put together a very strange and very cool little cover EP. We definitely trashed some classic tunes, but it's all very tongue-in-cheek since we would never take a cover song seriously 'cause it's basically just doing karaoke..."
This pre-holiday treat will feature 6 well know songs (listed below) which have been pulled apart and pieced back together in the whacky, wonky TVF style that their fans have come to know and love.
Keep your eyes on the band’s social media pages for more news, clips, and images leading up to the Christmas Eve digital release.
Album Track Listing:
1. Bohemian Rhapsody - Queen
2. Come on Eileen - Dexy's Midnight Runner

3 out of 5

The Canadian band The Perpetrators is led by singer/guitarist Jay Nowicki and their albums has been nominated several times as the best blues recording in Canada.
Their 4th album "Stick ´em up" is the follow up to the 2007 album "Tow tuck" and what we get is a cool mix of Memphis blues and dirty rocknroll, think Jeff Healey meets Rockpile with a touch of Stevie Ray Vaughan and you´ll get The Perpetrators.
This ain´t the kind of music I normally listen to but Jay is a great guitarplayer and their blues feels very honest, I also like the band´s energy a lot. I bet they´re an awesome live act, just listen to songs like "Smokes ´n chicken" or "Sweetgrass" and you´ll know what I mean.
The glowing riffs in "I must be crazy" bring thoughts to early Led Zeppelin while "Tired of tryin to keep my cool" should make ZZ Top real proud, thumbs up!

Boston - Life, love and hope

Boston - Life, love and hope (2013) Frontiers Records
Produced by Tom Scholz
Tracks : 1.Heaven on earth 2.Didn´t mean to fall in love 2.0 3.Last day of school 4.Sail away 5.Life, love and hope 6.If you were in love 7.Someday 8.Love got away 9.Someone 2.0 10.You gave up on love 2.0 11.The way you look tonight
1,5 out of 5

The long awaited new studio album from Boston must be one of the biggest disappointments of 2013, bandleader Tom Scholz has taken 10 years to write and record this album and the result is a disaster for Boston fans. The mix is a mess and the drummachine must be from the stoneage, there´s no balance between all the hundred guitars and everything else. Scholz insisted on re-recording 3 tracks from the 2002 album "Corporate America" which can only mean he couldn´t come up with more new songs for "Life, love and hope". There are a bunch of lead singers on this album such as David Victor, the late Brad Delp, Tommy DeCarlo, Kimberly Dahme and Scholz himself. But that only creates confusion and I prefer not more than 2 lead singers on a Boston record, the songs are ok and would´ve sounded a lot better with a stronger production except for "If you were in love" that sucks big time. I fear I will never listen to this album ever again.

Flannel Mouth with new single Oh Bastard available now

The Tallgrass Prairies of Illinois are carrying the sounds of FLANNEL MOUTH (SwitchBitch Records) yet again, this time in the form of a new single entitled “Oh, Bastard.”  The song, though independent of an album, showcases the emergence of Flannel Mouth’s ability to write a hard-hitting single whilst staying true to their unique brand of theatric rock, displayed on 2012’s Pull in Your Horns.  “Oh, Bastard” finds itself jumping from bouncy, melodic bass lines betwixt a crooning fiddle to a stomping hook surrounded by prog-inspired instrumentals, and it all supplements the dismal story of a boy born to parents with other priorities and the ultimate fates of anyone involved.  The vocals are highlighted by guttural emotion and punctuated by barbershop quartet-like harmonies throughout, making this track easily accessible for fans of CursiveModest MouseDear & the Headlights, and more.
