There aren´t many bands that can follow up a classic rock opera like Tommy (1969) with another one just as good 4 years later but The Who did it, the double album Quadrophenia is a collection of Townshend´s best songs according to himself. When you think about it, 3 of the members had released solo albums with Townshend´s Who came first in October 72, Daltrey´s self titled in April 73 and Entwistle with Rigor mortis sets in in June 73. And still, they entered a chaotic half built studio to record Quadrophenia that is filled brilliant songs like 5.15, Drowned, Quadrophenia, Love reign o´er me, Cut my hair and I´ve had enough. The first album showed The Who in a more progressive rock style while the second album sounded more like classic The Who songs, some critics say they peaked with this album but let me tell you. That peak would remain for several years to come.
