If you think the songtitles are strange on Canadian experimental metal band Super Massive Black Holes debut album, the music is even stranger. These 4 guys are totally running amok with a crossover of genres such as fusion, death metal, progressive rock and blues.
It´s like having Devin Townsend jamming with Opeth when they´re in their 70´s mood and doing a tribute to Mothers of Invention. They have obviously taken their bandname from a Muse song but that´s also where the similarities stop, this Canadian quartet do make technical music but I think they are a way off sometimes. It´s just too weird in some moments and even if I´m a fan of Frank Zappa myself, there´s a limit to how experimental a band can be in my opinion.
SMBH are okay musicians but they do play a bit sloppy at times, but they can play really well too like the guitar piece "Mathematics of emotion" which is the best track here.
