Fourplay : Coheed and Cambria , Escape The Fate , June Star , Colorway

Coheed and Cambria - The color before the sun (2015) And the Grammy goes to.....
Even though the guitar riff on "Young love" sounds like Pearl Jam, the similarities towards the Grunge band stops right there and instead the rest of the new album from Coheed and Cambria is handmade comfort for the open minded progrock fan.
Bandleader Claudio Sanchez sure do deserve a fine cake to share with his bandmates to celebrate the #1 spot on Billboard´s alternative album chart. "The color before the sun" is the Coheed and Cambria´s 8th studio album and their finest work to date, produced by Jay Joyce (Halestorm, Chantal Kreviazuk) who lets Sanchez and Co do what they do best and not turn them into something they are not.
I´m a sucker for this kind of Rush meets Circa Survive with a touch of It Bites-like artrock, songs like "Island", "Here to Mars" and "You got spirit, kid" are nothing but earcandy deluxe.
Other artists you might like : Davenport Cabinet, The Lifeline, The Venetia Fair

Escape The Fate - Hate me (2015) The anthemic rock parade starts now
Las Vegas rockers Escape The Fate have gone through some line up changes but they refuse to give up, drummer Robert Ortiz is the only original member left on their 5th studio album "Hate me" but the band sound more hungry than ever.
Together with long time frontman Craig Mabbitt and the new guitarists TJ Bell and Kevin Gruft, Escape The Fate has created a superstrong rock album with producer Howard Benson.
There´s less post hardcore/metalcore tendencies on the new album and instead the band is headed in the active rock direction, I´m sure they won´t lose the old fans with "Hate me" and I´m also sure they will gain new ones to the Escape The Fate family.
Green Day meets Imagine Dragons in the infectious "Let me be" while fans of Get Scared and The Used will jump high of joy to tracks like "Les Enfants Terribles", "Alive" and "I won´t break".
Highlights : "Les Enfants Terribles", "Alive", "Let me be".

June Star - Pull awake (2015) All set for the hi-fi experience
This Baltimore based quartet sounds like veterans in the music business, like they have been doing this for years. Which is not so strange because the band was formed in 1998 and the latest album "Pull awake" is their 10th release.
They deliver a blend of Americana, folk rock and adult alternative pop. Driven by Andrew Grimm´s baritone vocals where songs like "Tether" and "Wonders" bring thoughts to Crash Test Dummies.
The Chris Rea-like "Walk away" is quite nice while the rest of the album will appeal to fans of The Traveling Wilburys, the music really gets me in a comfy mood.
I´m rather surprised June Star isn´t bigger than they are, they should be selling records like lobster at the fish market.

Colorway - The black sky sequined (2015) Fearless by default
"The black sky sequined" is the 2nd album from Colorway, a trio from Massachusetts, USA. They released their self titled debut in 2013.
Although I think of Colorway as a rock band, it´s clearly that they´re just as influenced as new wave and blues too. I wasn´t too keen on this album at first but the music definitely grows for each time I hear it.
I hear a bit of Eric Clapton in their sound, as well as XTC and even The Style Council. Now you might think they´re an 80´s orientated band but I see Colorway´s songs more like timeless rock.
The song "The Cycle" sounds like a possible collaboration between Roger Waters and Dire Straits, just listen to the guitar both on this track and other songs like "Everybody wants me to love you" and "Telephone". F. Alex Johnson is such a great guitarplayer.
Overall, a solid album.

Palace of Prog and AOR IX

Got caught up in other things yesterday so I couldn´t post a new Palace of Prog and AOR, sorry about that but here it is. Better late than never, and remember to keep it classy.

In the post era of the FM dominated airwaves comes a new generation of classic rock, RADIO EXILE.
Reuniting some old friends, and making some new, RADIO EXILE is a fantastic blend of hard rock that will not disappoint the existing fans of any of these musicians. In fact, RADIO EXILE is sure to gain a new generation of fans who will be hungry for more. When the sure hand of destiny channels the melodic heart, we celebrate the creation. RADIO EXILE is exactly that and more. Just listen to the album on Spotify.

The Mute Gods are a new progressive rock band featuring Nick Beggs - Chapman Stick and Vocals, Marco Minnemann - Drums and Roger King - Keyboards.
Their debut album Do nothing till you hear from me drops on January 22nd, 2016.

Frontiers Music srl are pleased to announce the debut album from britain’s highly anticipated and freshest new hard rock band Inglorious.  the self-titled, 11-track album will be released on friday 19th february 2016.
Inglorious are five young men with a mutual love and respect of the classics of hard rock music, big guitar riffs, and soulful vocals.  their influences stem from iconic rock and roll shrine of rock albums from the 1970s – many years before the band members were born.

BRIDGE TO MARS, a three-piece powerhouse from Stockholm, Sweden. Featuring JJ Marsh - Vocals / Guitar, Robert Hansen - Bass and Thomas Broman - Drums. They've previously recorded and toured with Glenn Hughes, Beardfish, Michael Schenker, The Electric Boys, Hughes Turner Project, John Norum to name a few.
Their debut album drops in February 2016.

InsideOut Music recently announced the signing of The Mute Gods, a brand new band from the mind of renowned bassist, chapman stick player & vocalist Nick Beggs alongside drummer Marco Minnemann (Steven Wilson), and long-time Steve Hackett collaborator & keyboardist Roger King. Now it has been revealed that their debut album 'Do Nothing Till Your Hear From Me' will be released 22nd January 2016, and you can find the enigmatic artwork for the record, created by Lars 'Zeituhr" Tellmann, above.

Nick Beggs had this to say:
"The record has a number of moods. But overall, it's a rather disgruntled rant at the dystopia we've created for ourselves and our children. The song "Swimming Horses" is a warning about the passing of time and the rising of tides. "Feed the Troll" is a dedication to all those who have too much time on their hands.
The person who has helped me realize this record is Roger King. We worked together for quite a few years in the Steve Hackett band and when I approached him last year about producing, I was honored and surprised when he agreed. His strengths are my weaknesses and I believe we complement each other rather well. But the public will have the final word on that.
After working extensively with the Steven Wilson band, I invited Marco Minnemann to play drums for me. Although I have a couple of other guest drummers like Nick D'Virgilio and Gary O'Toole, Marco is playing on the majority of tracks. He also added his genius with some sound modeling and guitar.
Sonically, you can expect an album that tips its hat in the direction of alternative rock and pop, due for release in early 2016." - See more at: http://www.insideoutmusic.com/newsdetailed.aspx?IdNews=16543&IdCompany=8#sthash.MecQ8pPk.dpuf

Palace of Punk IX

The revolution is coming.

Former Tides is a 5 piece Rock/ Posthardcore band hailing from Utah. The band formed in early 2014 as a locally acclaimed "super group" debuting with their hit single "Young Minds" that took the title of "Best Rock Single" at the Utah Music Awards. In 2015 Former Tides released their singe/music video for "Invisible Wolves", and in October released their EP titled "What We Are" with "Fire" as the single. Former Tides is known for a wide sonic range of hard hitting and upbeat rock songs mated with emotive melody and catchy hooks.
Check out the first single Fire from the new EP.

Weezer´s new single Thank God For Girls is available now on various digital platforms.
Watch the official video here.

Pop-punk may be a young person's game most of the time, but that doesn’t mean there isn’t room for growth – or for grown-ups. Light Years are here to prove that. The band have graduated from the teenage angst that fuels most of their peers, instead turning their focus to the problems that face them in their mid-20s. I Won’t Hold This Against You, their 2013 debut LP released via Paper + Plastick Records, dwelled on the inescapable past while looking for ways to heal the scars incurred while coming of age.
Their new album I`ll see you when I see you drops Nov 13th. Check out the new video Are you sure?

Spotify pulls Victory Records releases.

Victory Records’ catalog of music was pulled from Spotify last night as a result of Spotify not properly paying publishing revenues due to Victory Records’ artists in blatant violation of US Copyright laws. Spotify also pulled down a very large number of albums that Victory is not the publisher for proving that their internal systems are inadequate. We asked that our catalog not be pulled, that we would amicably work with Spotify, and they haphazardly removed our content regardless. 53,000,000 streams, as per Spotify’s statements, were identified with no publishing royalties being paid by Spotify.

Late yesterday, Spotify sent over a document giving them mechanical clearance to use our music. We could not sign said document for a variety of reasons, most importantly, that it would put us in direct violation of our agreement with Audiam. Spotify knows we are in business with Audiam and were essentially asking us to breach/ignore that agreement. The issue of nonpayment for songwriters and composers is a widespread problem and not exclusive to Victory Records’ artists. We understand your frustration with not being able to listen to the music you enjoy (and most pay for via subscription).

The bottom line is that artists and songwriters are not being paid and fans of Victory’s artists cannot listen to the music.

Thank you for your support and we remain hopeful that Spotify will do the right thing.

Dutch progressive metallers TEXTURES are about to release a musical diptych: 'PHENOTYPE' -'GENOTYPE'. Two new albums set up around one concept. The Dutch sextet is not a band to put out an album every year in a row. The band took almost 2,5 years to write and record albums no. 5 and 6.
"Music is no fast food! Details are crafted and re-crafted. Extra layers are created and stretched to form the ultimate tension span for years to last."
'PHENOTYPE', the first album to be released on February 5th 2016 via Nuclear Blast, is a 60-minute long song-based album. TEXTURES present an eclectic overview of what modern metal has to offer. Catchy, innovative and progressive songs are what TEXTURES stand for.The new virtuosos Uri Dijk (synth) and Joe Tal (guitar) deliver a new, harmonic vibe to the mature TEXTURES sound.
'GENOTYPE', which will be released a year later, is a 45-minute long conceptual track. The root material of which 'PHENOTYPE' consists of is presented in this song, but in a totally different context: TEXTURES go out-of-the-box. More proggy, more atmosphere and lots of extra layers to fill the last gaps left in this extensive double rollercoaster ride.In support of 'PHENOTYPE',

Fourplay : Villainy , Magnus Karlsson´s Free Fall , Billy Sherwood , A Silent Film

Villainy - Dead sight (2015) Unleash the beast and kill the mainstream
Let me present one of the biggest rock bands down under right now, Kiwi rockers Villainy released their debut "Mode. Set. Clear." in 2013 and now follow up with the sophomore album "Dead sight".
They´ve got energy, attitude, power and hooks all over. Who can resist smart riffs like a stampede of rock? I can´t. The new single "Syria" knocked me out totally, but this explosive rocker is hardly alone on this brilliant record.
At times, they´re headed in the post hardcore lane and in other moments, Villainy is a straight ahead rock band with catchy choruses. Just to surprise with Failure-like alternative rock when you least expect it.
"Love and war" is a killer and "No future" is modern punk euphoria, the best there is.
You can´t tame this lion of a band.

Magnus Karlsson´s Free Fall - Kingdom of rock (2015) Like a Hollywood ending
Primal Fear´s six stringer Magnus Karlsson has invited a bunch of well known singers on his 2nd Free Fall album "Kingdom of rock", how about Jorn Lande, Jakob Samuel (The Poodles), Joe Lynn Turner (ex.Rainbow), Harry Hess (Harem Scarem), Tony Martin (ex.Black Sabbath), David Readman (Pink Cream 69) and Tony Harnell (ex.TNT).
The first Free Fall album from 2013  was quite good but the new one feels rather predictable, this kind of Euro metal is like a film where you know the hero gets the girl in the end.
And like a friend of mine said, every singer on this record sounds like Jorn Lande, why?
Well, you can point out two names that do stand out. Harry Hess in the Harem Scarem-like rocker "A heart so cold" and Rebecca De La Motte in the Robin Beck-esque AOR of "The right moment".
The rest is like sand in Sahara, there´s just too much of the same thing.

Billy Sherwood - Citizen (2015) Building castles in the air
I fear 50 year old multi musician Billy Sherwood promise too much when he gathers the elite of the progrock scene on his 8th solo album "Citizen".
With names like Steve Hackett (ex.Genesis), Steve Morse (Deep Purple), Jordan Rudess (Dream Theater), Jon Davidson (Yes), John Wesley, Alan Parsons, Geoff Downes (Asia, Yes), Patrick Moraz (ex.Yes), Tony Kaye (ex.Yes) and Rick Wakeman (ex.Yes), we should expect a masterpiece.
But "Citizen" feels like an album between albums, the music bring thoughts to World Trade, Circa and Yes but the songs aren´t good enough.
Perhaps a new solo album isn´t what´s in priority here since Billy´s back in Yes again and I bet he is sleeping well at night so a bad review won´t exactly tear down the smiley on his Twitter wall.

A Silent Film - A Silent Film (2015) Close encounters of the anti-climax kind
Do you know the feeling when you´re looking at the album cover of one band but think you´re listening to a completely different band. I get that feeling when I listen to A Silent Film´s 3rd album, I knew about their love for The Killers before but this is ridiculous. Their new self titled album could in fact be a The Killers record.
Brandon Flowers got them in his claws so to speak.
I had high hopes after the great "New year" EP, released earlier this year. 2 songs from the EP are included on the new album but not the awesome song "Tomorrow" which is disappointing.
The Oxford gents Robert Stevenson and Spencer Walker sure can write songs with hitpotential but we only need one The Killers.
"Chinese lanterns" is a beautiful song, I really like that one and "Lake swimming" sticks like superglue in my head, very nice.
Clones or not, songs like "Something to believe in", "Lightning strike" and "Strong enough" do belong in rotation on radio.

Fourplay : Post Paradise , Arcane Roots , Deville , September Mourning

Post Paradise - Bring it to life, Side A (2015) Memories of the Y2K bug
Let´s go back to the late 90´s and the alternative rock scene when bands like Our Lady Peace, Dishwalla and Splender were your favorite bands. The Colorado based alt-rock quartet Post Paradise sounds just like a flashback of that era, take a moment and listen to their new EP "Bring it to life, side A". If you close your eyes, you will believe it´s 1999 when Third Eye Blind´s "Blue" was the soundtrack of the year.
Post Paradise features Nick Starr Duarte - Vocals/Guitar, Amy Morgan - Cello, Brian Zeiger - Bass and Mark Roshon - Drums. They have released 2 full length albums and will follow up with Side B in 2016, Side A is produced by Andrew Berlin (Rise Against, As I Lay Dying) and I think it´s real cool that they´ve got a cello player in the band that makes their sound a bit more original.

Arcane Roots - Heaven and Earth (2015) Big rock from the United Kingdom
The alternative rock scene in England has never been hotter, mostly because bands like Biffy Clyro, Muse and Mallory Knox are both so exciting and successful.
The trio Arcane Roots take most of their inspiration from these bands but also add a personal touch to it, there´s the progressive part a la Dead Letter Circus, not to mention anthemic choruses like Thirty Seconds To Mars.
Remember the name Andrew Groves, he´s the singer and guitarist of Arcane Roots. This guys is a genius when it comes to intelligent songwriting, with mindblowing riffs and strong melodies.
If you by any chance missed their debut album "Blood and chemistry" from 2013, you are a fool if you will pass on their new EP "Heaven and Earth".
This is true love!

Deville - Make it belong to us (2015) Riffmeisters from Scandinavia
You don´t need much in life, air to breathe, food and water, sleep once in a while but most importantly - music! Remember that on the 8th day, god created rock and roll.
Even if I was living a self-sufficient life in a cabin in the woods, I would still have to rock to feel healthy and vital in my mind.
The Swedish heavy rock band Deville knows this too and play those riffs like it was the last day of their lives, we get a double dose of 70´s hard rock, grunge and modern metal on their new album. Does it sound wonderful or what?
Take a bit of Black Sabbath, Soundgarden and Mustasch and you´ll get "Make it belong to us". Forget about imaginary shows like Idol and instead get yourself a taste of real loud rock in songs like "Out of the black" and "Life in decay".
Also available :
"Come heavy sleep" (2007)
"Hail the black sky" (2009)
"Hydra" (2013)

September Mourning - Volume 1 (2015) Bring out your halloween costumes
After the debut album "Melancholia" from 2012, September Mourning signed to Virgin Records but whatever happened to that deal, I don´t know.
Fronted by Emily Lazar, the band now releases their new EP Volume 1 independently and whether you call it goth, industrial or death pop. September Mourning will get you in the right mood for the vampire film night or the horror masquerade.
The cover of Ben E.King´s "Stand by me" felt a bit odd but my favorite songs are "Angels to dust" and "Children of fate". I could swear producer Don Gilmore was involved in this record but I know it´s Howard Benson. However, it doesn´t sound like a typical Benson production.
I can´t wait for Volume 2.
For fans of Lacuna Coil, Lahannya, The Murder of My Sweet

Imagine Dragons Live in Stockholm Oct 21st

Imagine Dragons live at the Globe Arena in Stockholm, Sweden.
Last night I went to Stockholm see this popular band from Las Vegas, a pop band on record but definitely heavier on stage.
The concert was a bit short, only 90 minutes including the encore and I don´t think guitar and drum solos should be included in a show. It belongs to the age of dinosaurs.
But the sound and light show were both amazing, frontman Dan Reynolds is a pro and a truly great singer live.
I can´t complain about the setlist either since they delivered all the hits including Radioactive, I bet my life, Demons, On top of the world, Shots and Warriors.
But they also pulled off superstrong versions of Gold, I´m so sorry, The fall, Polaroid, Trouble and a beautiful cover of Alphaville´s Forever young.
I´m happy.

Palace of Prog and AOR VIII

In October 1985, I listened to albums like Power windows by Rush, Twitch by Aldo Nova, Standing on the edge by Cheap Trick, Alibi by Vandenberg and Run for cover by Gary Moore.
Now, 30 years later some of those bands are still around but these are the melodic news of October 2015.

The brothers Marko and Jari Aalto had a dream. - To start a band and make good songs. The goal was clear and simple. The Aaltobrothers joined forces with the Andersson/Mann brothers Jonas and Jens. The guys started an intensive period of heavyduty songwriting.
In the beginning of 2013 Jonny Lindkvist, a well respected singer joined the band and Fate's Right Band was formed.

Check out this Swedish melodic rock band´s new song My world is falling, taken from their new EP Smile.

Oct 30 is the date when Def Leppard´s new self titled album is released. You have already heard the first single Let´s Go, but have you heard the new single Dangerous?

LifeLine is a new melodic rock band from England, featuring Nigel Bailey (Three Lions), Lee Small (Shy), Paul Hume (Demon), Steve Clarkson (Bailey) and Andy Bailey (Bailey).
Their debut album Scream drops on October 23, watch the official video Jezebel here.

A message from Serafino Perugino, president of Frontiers Records.

-I have seen that some people are commenting with their disappointment that a few of the “so called” supergroups are not playing live and that this somehow diminishes the relevance or quality of these releases. A lot of negative vibes and preconceived notions are made before a note of music has even been released. This is not a new issue to us and we of course respect people's opinions, but in these times of social media where direct communication to the fans is available, I thought I’d make a direct statement to explain how we, Frontiers see things.

Since the moment I put the label together, I saw this as one of the most exciting jobs that I could ever have imagined in my life. It was something that for years I was only able to dream of. The idea of working with the artists that for years and years I had been listening to on record was truly exciting. And after almost 20 years (yes, next year Frontiers will turn 20!), I think I have not lost one ounce of that initial enthusiasm! I was, and still am primarily a MUSIC fan and I have always interpreted my role as A&R director of Frontiers in a creative way. I have always been relentless in trying to find and expose GOOD MUSIC to the fans. And considering that when I started the label a lot of the classic bands that I grew up with were disbanded or not active, I think that I have really helped in creating some interesting pieces of music to fill the void left by those legends.

Since the days where – together with artists like Kevin Chalfant, Mark Mangold, Jim Peterik, Billy Greer or Tony Harnell to name a few – we created the concepts of Two Fires, The Sign, Seventh Key, Pride of Lions and Starbreaker, Frontiers has been the “brain” behind these new band projects which were greeted warmly by the public and the media. Now as to WHY those bands have never played live? Well to begin with it is not completely true that none of these projects have ever played live. In fact, The Sign, Two Fires, Seventh Key, The Magnificent, W.E.T, Angelica, ISSA, and I am certainly forgetting others, have all played live shows. And also, it needs to be said that there is nothing in principle that prevents these bands from playing live. In most cases, unfortunately this has to do with a lack of interest from tour promoters and/or with scheduling conflicts among the members or even certain contractual obligations that the artists might have to their main band. However, I am pleased to say that there will be more and more efforts from our side to bring these projects to life on the stage moving forward – and you will soon see what I mean.

So, yes, I think I am creative and again, what still preoccupies me the most, after all these years, is to keep releasing GREAT records that keep Classic Rock, Melodic Rock, and Hard Rock alive and well with a constant flow of quality releases. This – I think – allows everyone to keep ENJOYING new and exciting music while allowing me to keep building on my personal dreams thanks to the art, talent and skill of all these amazing musicians we are so fortunate to work with. Just think about all the amazing records from the likes of ALLEN LANDE, FROM THE INSIDE, ISSA, KHYMERA, KISKE SOMERVILLE, PLACE VENDOME, FIRST SIGNAL, SUNSTORM, VERTIGO and all the others…

I really hope that people can welcome with open arms the music we release and give it a fair chance, regardless of who is involved, if the artist is touring, etc. Moreover I wish to say one final thing: If it wasn’t for some of those projects, we would have had a lot more difficulties in launching new talents. The most shining example is probably W.E.T, whose success immensely helped the exposure for two of the most EXCITING new bands we have on the roster, Eclipse (Sweden) and Work of Art. But, I could obviously mention Revolution Saints for Alessandro Del Vecchio, Allen Lande for Magnus Karlsson, Starbreaker for Fabrizio Grossi, Find Me for Daniel Flores, and of course all the work we did during the years with Dennis Ward, and so on. These groups are also a really important tool to expose new songwriters, producers and real musical talents to the world.

Talking about new bands, you may have noticed some “young blood” coming in. I am very proud of these new guys, and I hope you will follow and give them a chance, exactly in the same way you would do with a new Whitesnake or Journey record.

Long Live Rock n’ Roll!!
