Fivefold - Open letter (2015) Independent
Produced by Matthew Amelung
Tracks : 1.Anything but lonely 2.All of me 3.Room to breathe 4.Darker side of me 5.Pen + Paper 6.A good start 7.Just close your eyes 8.Won´t let go
3 out of 5

I was no fan of Fivefold´s 2010 EP which was a mediocre postgrunge affair more or less, but the St.Louis based band has improved quite a bit since that failure.
The new album "Open letter" is energetic and catchy, sure the music is mainstream and perhaps not the most unique sounding record on the planet but the songs are good.
Their dated modern rock has traces of pop punk so the most evil tongue will probably bring out the death saw to cut this record to pieces just because of these simple facts, but a good song will always be a good song so that´s enough for me.
The Goo Goo Dolls-like ballad "Won´t let go" is really nice but it´s an upbeat rock song like "Pen + Paper" that will make my day.
Highlights : Anything but lonely, Pen + Paper
Recommended if you like Mercury, Closure, SR 71
