Deepfield is one of the best bands in the modern rock genre today, I loved their 2007 debut "Archetypes and repetitions" and also enjoyed their unreleased Covers album from 2008.
There will be a new full length soon called "Between the devil and the deep blue sea" but as an appetizer for what´s to come, the band gives us the brand new smashing "Limited Release EP".
6 new songs that feels like a Grizzly bear coming right at ya, they´ve got the same power in their riffs as Alter Bridge and yet it´s so super melodic.
I noticed there is a leaked version of only 5 tracks on the net, if you got it - you are missing the awesome track "So far away".

It´s been a while since The Shore´s debut on Maverick records in 2004, but the new album is truly worth the wait because this is a solid rock band that deliver quality from track 1 to 13.
They´re a bit like an Americanized version of Oasis, you can call it stadium rock if you want.
Favorite tracks are "All I see" and the 9 minute long "Lose my breath".

IVO from Switzerland deliver a fine album with "Closer" in this genre, his debut "All in all" came out in 2002 and recently he also released the Live and Acoustic (2009).

The Dawn is another quality rock band from Denmark, they recorded their new album "Beyond this fall" (2009) with producer Allen Salmon (This Beautiful Republic) and the result is more than satisfying.
They are christian band but doesn´t sound like the typical christian rock band, perhaps it´s because they have maintained a certain rougher edge compared to many polished productions in christian rock music.

Post-rock from Canada, yes Toronto based Paint already debuted in 2001 with "Urban folk tales" which became a rather popular album.
Their new 8 track album "Can you hear me?" (2009) will appeal to fans of Live, Smashing Pumpkins and Pearl Jam.
This is a solid album with guitar driven rock songs the 90´s style, it´s nice to listen to a 34 minute long album instead of all these marathon albums with more than 1 hour of music.

After the success of the first efforts of the band, "Intwine" (2003), "Perfect" (2004) and "Pyrrhic Victory" (2006), Tiefdruck-Musik asked the band to introduce themselves to the rest of the world with a compilation of their biggest successes.
"Kingdom Of Contradiction" (out Aug 14, 2009) is a compilation of 16 songs that proved before to be hits - but also to keep the local fans in mind INTWINE re-recorded all tracks in new versions. "We spoke to our friends and fans and spend a lot of time discussing which songs to re-record, but I think we came up with quite a good collection of songs where everybody will find its own favourite." explains guitarist Jacob Streefkerk.

The first single, outside of Holland will be a double A-side feature of the heavy song "Perfect" and a new recording of "Walking On The Moon" which features Sarah Bettens, known as the singer of Belgiums best music export Ks Choice. "We decided for "Walking On The Moon" (original "Police" classic) as the first single in Holland, because it reflects the last 7 years in a perfect way, and it is also a new track for our long-time fans at home, and "Perfect" for the rest of the world, because we wanted to introduce ourselves as what we are, a heavy rocking metal band."

Mobile from Canada is a band that goes from strength to strength with each release, they started off good with the 2006 debut "Tomorrow starts today" but the follow up "Tales from the city" was even better.

Cavo - Bright nights, dark days
I really loved Cavo´s independent album "The painful art of letting go" from 2007 and looked forward to hearing the major label debut "Bright nights, dark days".
But as usual with these major label releases, the style and production follows the corporate rock machine by numbers.
It gets so traditional and average, the southern rock vibes from the previous album is gone with the wind on the new album.
There are some good songs like the single "Champagne", "Ghost" and "Over again".
The ballad "My little secret" could easily have been featured on a The Calling album, producer David Bendeth does what you can expect from a million dollar producer but we´ve heard it so many times before.
If you take one song from Cavo´s new album on a modern rock mixtape, you can´t seperate them from any other bands.

Danger Danger - Revolve

U.S melodic rockers Danger Danger returns with the first studio album in 2 decades with original singer Ted Poley on Sept.18.
"Revolve" is also the first album with guitarist Rob Marcello even though he´s been with the band since 2003.
The new album sounds like a mix between the Paul Laine-era and the more AOR-ish Ted Poley-era, I think the album stand strong with a modern melodic sound and Poley´s vocal performance is top notch.
It´s not their best album but easily a safe buy for fans of the band!
Highlights: Ghost of love, Killin´ love, Hearts on the highway

Injected - The truth about you (2005) Island Records

The Atlanta based Injected released their Island debut "Burn it black" in 2002, it was produced by Butch Walker and their songs was also featured on several soundtracks like Spiderman and The Scorpion King.
The band started working on their follow up "The truth about you" with producer Nick Didia and it was finished in 2005, but the lack of label support put the album on the shelves and the band parted ways.
The modern rock band Upside recorded the songs "Monday" and "Daylight" on their 2006 album "Jim Beam and the American Dream", and David Cook recorded "Barb-a-sol" on his self titled 2008 album.
4 songs are available as free download at www.injectedfans.com/music.html and they are "Daylight", "Barb-a-sol", "Speed metal" and "Dig me out".

The song was featured on their independent release "Everyday behavior" but in a different version, this version sounds better and it´s not featured on any of their albums.

Automatic Black - De Evolution (2004) Arista Records
The Philadelphia based modern rock band Automatic Black formed in 2001 and signed to Arista Records in 2003.
Their debut "De-Evolution" was meant be out in 2004 but was never released due to label politics and staff changes.
Only the songs "Crash and Burn" and "Go your way" was released to radio, the band released an EP independently in 2008.
Guitarist Stevie D left to re-form Buckcherry with Josh Todd in 2005, he was replaced by Mark Biondi.

yeah, your sound is built around 2 guitars so I guess it makes it more complete. you are playing the big Swedish festival Frizon this weekend. how does it feel?
-I think it's going to be very funny! when I was younger I always wanted to go to frizon.. and now I'm playing at the festival.. it's awesome..
but it's a little bit nervous too, 'cause it's one of our biggest shows and we're going to be interviewed in a talkshow to..

cool, I have followed this band for a while now and I think you have developed your sound and are getting better for each day. what are your influences?
-well, My favourite bands I got the inspiration from are Underoath, Paramore and Blindside... actually, I think that I can say that we're playing a mix of all these bands.

one final question, your demo was produced by a member of Intohimo. will you work with him on the next recording too?
-we're actually planning to record an ep this autumn or in the early 2010, and we've asked Jocke if he want to produce us again so I think so!

Kharma 45 is a indie electro rock band from Northern Ireland, their debut album Secondo was due for release in Spring 2008 following a commercial release of the third single "Ecstasy" in February. However this did not materialise.
Where´s your spirit man and Come on are the two other singles released from this never released album.Singer Glenn has left in pursuit of a solo career. Pete Doherty, Shane McDevitt & Phil Curran have formed a new band (The Logic) with lead singer Laura Edwards from England.

On the surface, 22-year-old Florida native Matt Hires seems to be the epitome of the sunshine state: bare-footed, artistic, and coolly easy-going. But there's a lot more to him than meets the eye. As a child, Matt was introduced to different musical genres by his father. It was Matt's father that passed along his old, handmade acoustic guitar from 1977 to Matt when he was sixteen years old - the same guitar that Matt uses today.
A homeschooler, Matt taught himself to play the guitar. During high school, Matt gravitated towards the punk/hardcore scene, which is a far cry from his own introspectively powerful acoustic pop sound. Although he was a hockey player and enjoyed surfing and skateboarding, Matt was self-proclaimed nerd. "I collected tons of Star Wars toys as a young kid, made my own Star Wars movies with them that usually starred my pet hedgehog, Prickles, and wrote my own Star Wars stories - they were pretty bad," Matt recalls of his early childhood. Though Matt might have outgrown his fascination with Star Wars toys, he never outgrew his love for music. By the time he was seventeen years old, Matt wrote his first song, and began performing in public a year later. Soon thereafter, Matt and a few of his friends decided to start a band, Brer. They recorded two albums, The Sun Is Rising EP and Microwavable.
"There were ups and downs, band members came and went, but overall it was a great time, and a great experience. We also evolved a lot musically over our fairly short existence, and I grew a lot as a songwriter and musician," says Matt. Now, as a solo artist, Matt is poised to captivate audiences with his endearing personality, melodic sound, and undeniable talent.

Owl City - Ocean eyes

Adam Young aka Owl City made his major label debut "Ocean eyes" on July 28th.
Before summer, we could download the new song "Hot air balloon" for free and it was truly an appetizer for what would come.
That song isn´t featured on the new album but we get lots of other goodies here, I think the sound is perfect for the ears and if anyone could carry the genre Space pop all alone - it would be Owl City.
There´s more pop over this album than the previous independent release "Maybe I´m dreaming" from 2008.
Some songs even sound like a collaboration between Ben Folds and Hellogoodbye, the album cover suits the music like hand in glove.
Close to a 4!

Lock 13 - Inner Enemy

This album was already recorded and done back in 2006 but it took them another 3 years to get the album out on Mortal Music.
Alabama numetallers Lock 13 will appeal to fans of Trust Company and SOiL with their well crafted debut "Inner enemy".
The album is mixed by Ulrich Wild (Breaking Benjamin, Project 86, Static-X) and it sounds fat and heavy.
I´m glad that all 13 tracks from the 2006 recordings are included on the forthcoming release on Sept 8th.

Voices of Rock - Vol II High and Mighty

The producers and songwriters Michael Voss (Casanova, Mad Max) and Chris Lausmann (Bonfire, Jaded Heart) continues their Voices of Rock regatta of various hard rock singers on the 2nd Voices of Rock album "Vol.II High and Mighty", due out on Aug 28th.
The first album MMVII from 2007 featured great vocalists like Harry Hess, Dan Reed, James Christian, Gary Barden, Robin Beck, Jean Beauvoir, Goran Edman, Johnny Gioeli, Steve Overland and Terry Brock.
The new album doesn´t match the first album, there are some really good vocal performances from a new famous line up of singers but the songs feels average.
The only highlights are "Dirty games" featuring David Reece of Accept/Gypsy Rose and "Shame on you" featuring Bert Heerink of Vandenberg.

Cain´s Offering - Gather the faithful

Cain´s Offering is a new Finnish power metal band feat. the Sonata Arctica guitarist and Stratovarius singer.
Their debut "Gather the faithful" will be released on Aug.28th.
I didn´t expect much from this album but it was better than I thought, the music bring thoughts to Royal Hunt and Stratovarius.
It´s a good bombastic production and songs like "Oceans of regret" and "Gather the faithful" are wonderful.

Demi Lovato - Here we go again

Only 16 years old and already done more things than most middle aged women, Demi Lovato released her debut album "Don´t forget" in 2008 and this year she followed up with her 2nd album "Here we go again".
Demi is also an actress and has done 2 Camp Rock movies, she briefly dated Metro Station singer Trace Cyrus and in fact loves Norwegian black metal band Dimmu Borgir.
The new album contains songs co-written by John Fields, Jon McLaughlin, John Mayer and many more.
I bet she will climb the charts once again with this album since it´s a catchy pop/rock affair like a mix of Hilary Duff and Kelly Clarkson.
Perfect teenpop! (and I like it....?????....hrm....God works in mysterious ways)

2009 is without doubt one of the best years of modern rock, we have already seen awesome releases with bands like Sick Puppies, Adelitas Way, Nural and Royal Bliss.
And on Aug.11th, the Universal debut from After Midnight Project is released.
The album "Let´s build something to break" contains 3 re-recorded songs off their 2 previously released EP´s, they are "The becoming", "The real thing" and "Take me home".
Plus 8 brand new tracks where the highlights are "Come on come on", "Gone too long" and "Backlit".
The production from John Feldmann sounds fresh and edgy, good work!

It can´t be just fun to hear that Crosby is the son of the Grammy award winning Kenny Loggins all the time but it certainly has opened a lot of doors too.
His debut solo "Time to move" is a well produced and performed singer/songwriter rock album in the same vein as John Mayer and James Taylor.
Crosby is a great singer too, just like his dad and I can recommend this album for all fans of this genre.

Bleu - A Watched Pot (2009)
This album was meant to be released back in 2005 on Columbia records but Bleu was dropped and it took more than 3 years for him to get the rights to release it.
During this time, Bleu hasn´t exactly been lazy but was a part of wonderful releases such as L.E.O - Alpacas orgling (2006), Loud Lion - The Hills Have Eyes Soundtrack (2007), The Blizzard of 05 (2007) and The Major Labels (2008).
Bleu has a fantastic voice and the songs are magical, this is diamond pop for fans of super melodic music.
I believe this could be released as a hits compilation because the album totally is filled with stunning songs like "Boy meets girl", "go", "Save me", "When the lights go out" and "Come N Go".
A masterpiece!!!!

The Killer and The Star

Cold frontman Scooter Ward´s new project The Killer and The Star is quite different compared to Cold, this is not a rock album but still contains lots of great songs.
2 years in the making but why the demo-like production?
It´s an atmospheric moody soundscape and Scooter is a marvelous singer but I think the drum machine sound is annoying and I get the feeling it doesn´t sound finished.
I really like songs like "Question", "End of summer" and "Angel falls" so with a better production, I know I would´ve rated it much higher.
Scooter, give us a new Cold album instead!

This album is a bit more acoustic compared to the 2004 album "MP3", the song "Emperor" could´ve been an unreleased Neil Young tune and is one of few highlights along with "Gin and money" and "I burned the bed".
A decent album worth buying if you find it in a secondhand store or for midprice.

Daughtry´s new album "Leave this town" is exactly like a big budget Hollywood movie, you know the story and you know the ending before you´ve actually seen it.
You know the hero is gonna make it at the end, you know he´s gonna get his girl and you know the bad guys will die or lose.
Predictable and hardly exciting but all very well done.
You want something safe and easy to singalong to, then this album is perfect.
But at the same time, don´t we all know how Daughtry´s 3rd album will sound like?
And one more thing, were there any guitar solos on it?

Our Lady Peace - Burn Burn

Expectations were high on the new album "Burn Burn" from Our Lady Peace, and it has a strong opening where "Dreamland" is the best song they´ve done since "Gravity" (2002).
But the album falls on the second half and even if it´s more rocking than "Healthy in paranoid times" from 2005, I cannot give it more than 3.
The song "Monkey brains" is crappy.
Other highlights are "Escape artist" and the single "All you did was save my life".

Dope Stars Inc - 21st century slave

The 3rd album from Italian industrial metal band Dope Stars Inc follows the same tradition of techno based metal as their previous album "Gigahearts" from 2006.
At times, they sound a bit like a faster Deathstars and in other moments I come to think of Marilyn Manson on a rave party.
I think the production was better on "Gigahearts" but the new album "21st century slave" is ok, why not crank up the awesome "Digital warriors" - oh man what a great song it is.
